Katamari Cat and Mouse (Subjectivity is an irreducible element of objectivity) is part of a series of sculptural works deriving from USB objects. It is a response to curator Ruslan Trusewych's prompt to make a sculpture with the title, "Subjectivity is an Irreducible Element of Objectivity."
This object is inspired by the Japanese video game Katamari Damacy, in which the prince of the universe must race to collect all manner of earthly things by rolling them up into "katamari" balls. When they get big enough, he uses the katamari balls as stars to repopulate the cosmos.
Translated to English, "Katamari Damacy" means "Clump Soul," a phrase which evokes subjectivity in objectivity, and vice versa.
